About
But the fragments of our memories are not just hazy souvenirs of the past. They are a reflection of the environment and the time in which they were created. They are puzzle pieces of human history, not only with its beautiful but also its darkest sides.
Numerous poets and composers have taken on the artistic representation of childhood memories. On their debut CD, soprano Anna Graf and pianist Han-Lin Yun, who have been working as a duo since 2018, devote themselves to some of these songs. The first part contains examples from the 19th century, such as a complete recording of the cycle The Nursery by Modest Mussorgsky. The songs selected for the second part of this CD come from composers who were ostracized in the 20th century and a female composer, again with a complete recording of a cycle, the Jewish Songs, op.13, by Mieczysław Weinberg. With this CD, Anna Graf and Han-Lin Yun want to honour the work of these composers and not let their names be forgotten. The booklet also addresses the artists' individual childhood memories and contains new research results on the authorship of the Ammenlied, D122, which was previously attributed to Franz Schubert.
